BYD Unveils Revolutionary 5-Minute EV battery Charging Technology
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has announced a groundbreaking new battery technology that promises to significantly reduce charging times. The company unveiled its “Super e-Platform” which boasts the capability of providing around 400 kilometers (249 miles) of range in just 5 minutes of charging.
This announcement caused BYD’s shares in Hong Kong to jump to a record high. The new platform utilizes a 1,000-volt architecture and features enhanced Blade batteries that support ultra-fast charging. BYD founder and chairman Wang Chuanfu stated that this technology aims to “fundamentally solve users’ charging anxiety,” with the goal of making EV charging times comparable to refueling a gasoline car.
The first vehicles to feature this technology will be the new BYD Han L sedan and the BYD Tang L SUV, both of which have started pre-sales in China. These flagship models will also benefit from the platform’s ability to achieve 0-100 km/h acceleration in around 2 seconds and offer over 1000 horsepower in some variants.
To support this ultra-fast charging capability, BYD plans to build an extensive network of over 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China, some of which will include energy storage facilities to ensure consistent power delivery.
