Home Electrification
Electrifying a house is four decisions that interact: heating, cooking, transport and storage. Whether they add up depends less on the equipment than on the ratio between your electricity and gas prices — a number set by policy rather than engineering, and one that varies enormously between countries.
We cover heat pumps, home batteries, rooftop solar and home EV charging with the arithmetic attached, including the cases where the numbers do not work. A heat pump in a country with a punitive electricity-to-gas ratio is a worse investment than the brochure suggests, and saying so is part of the job.

Australia’s Home Batteries Hit 500,000 as US Credit Ends
Australia has installed 507,000 subsidised home batteries in 13 months, adding 14 GWh of storage, just as the US lets its 30% federal battery credit expire and its market turns down.
The BrightVolt Take: Buy Solar, Get 0%. Lease It, Get 40%
Washington ended the 30% tax credit for homeowners who buy rooftop solar, but kept it, up to 40%, for anyone who leases. Analysts now expect two-thirds of US home solar to be third-party owned.
The BrightVolt Take: Utilities Want Your Home Battery Now
Green Mountain Power’s home-battery fleet replaced two peaker plants and saved $6M in one July hour. Utilities fought rooftop solar for years. Now they pay to install the batteries.
The BrightVolt Take: Heat Pumps Sell on the Price Ratio
Norway installs 14 times more heat pumps per home than Britain. The gap isn’t climate ambition or subsidies. It’s the electricity-to-gas price ratio, and Europe’s spring rebound proves it.
Net Metering Is Ending. Homeowners Are Buying Batteries.
Battery attachment on new Californian home solar went from 14% to 57% in a year. Maryland has now dated the end of one-for-one net metering, and the 30% federal credit is gone.
