Electric Trucks

Road freight is where electrification stops being about cars and starts being about duty cycles. A tractor unit running 500 km a day has different constraints from a delivery van doing 80, and the technologies serving them — megawatt charging, battery swapping, range-extended hybrids — are diverging rather than converging.

China is running the experiment at scale. It sold 231,100 electric heavy trucks in a year against Europe’s 4,991, and roughly 29% of them swap batteries instead of charging. BrightVolt covers heavy freight, pickups and vans, with the economics attached: what a truck costs to run per kilometre, what the depot needs behind it, and which claims survive a second source.
