Electric Bikes
The e-bike is the most-used electric vehicle in the world by unit count and among the least seriously covered. The engineering questions are real ones — cell quality and fire risk, motor placement, the difference between a torque sensor and a cadence sensor — and they are usually buried under product marketing.
BrightVolt treats e-bikes as transport rather than gadgets. That includes the regulation that decides what is legal to ride and where, and the battery-safety rules now arriving in several countries after a run of fires traced to uncertified cells.
Amflow’s 2026 E-MTBs: Every Headline Number, Translated
150 Nm, 1,500 W, 144 km and a £3,999 carbon enduro bike. All real, all narrower than they sound — the peak torque lasts 60 seconds and the range figure implies the motor contributing 73 watts.
The Motor Ate the Gearbox: How eCVT E-Bike Drives Work
Two Eurobike drives put the gearbox inside the motor and use electricity instead of cogs to change ratio. It is the hybrid car’s power-split transmission, shrunk — and on an e-bike the efficiency it costs is worth about eight kilometres.
Why an E-Bike Battery Beats a Car Battery on Energy Density
A Taycan pack manages 148 Wh/kg. A 2027 e-bike pack claims 243. The bicycle wins on the same cells, because it does not have to be a crash structure, a cooling system or a fire barrier — and that is also why it has almost no headroom left.
Gobao’s Derailleur-Free Drive Published Its Numbers. One of Them Doesn’t Add Up
150 Nm, 1,500 W peak, 3.85 kg and a 500% stepless range, due February 2027. The weight claim is checkable and holds. The battery line-up says an extra 150 Wh costs 100 grams, which no cell on Earth can do.
Avinox Showed a Gearbox Motor and Almost No Numbers
The DJI-backed MG Concept published a 520% gear range and sub-0.1-second shifts, then declined to give a torque figure, a power figure, a weight or a price. Gobao showed a comparable drive at the same show and published everything.
TfL Announces Ban on Non-Folded E-bikes Starting March 31st
London commuters who rely on e-bikes for their journeys will need to take note of a significant upcoming change. Transport for London (TfL) has officially announced a ban on all non-folded e-bikes across several of its key services, set to come into effect on Monday,...
